Hello from Massachusetts!

I just acquired a 2004 Discovery 2 SE from an equally-passionate owner in NH. Having previously owned a 1974 ExMOD SIII 109 and a 1990 Range Rover, I am very familiar with the joys of ownership. I am starting to go through this well-sorted D2 to ensure things are reliable and basically get to know how she works. I love getting my hands dirty and keeping vehicles in tip-top shape. So, I have started wiping off the old oil and grease that accumulates over the years and taking a look underneath. Anytime I touch something, I am trying to clean it back to showroom condition... at least until the first off-roading adventure happens. At least then I'll know what is connected to what. It's a process.

I am excitedly browsing the forum trying to learn all of the ins and outs of these trucks. I really love the driving position, though I wish the steering wheel could extend a bit. I have a sort of Tyrannosaurus rex body thing going on and have to have the seat all the way back and the steering wheel ends up a tad too far from where my hands want it.

My wife reluctantly gave me the green light to buy it on the promise I'd sell my old Ducati (taking offers!) and after a perfect 3-hour drive home, I parked the D2 in my driveway late that night and walked inside feeling incredibly proud. The next morning, I piled the entire family in the truck with the idea of taking everyone to the new bakery in the next town over to fill them with fat and sugar and start off their love affair with the truck as well. First, I have a very dark BLUE truck and not a black one as I thought I had purchased. It was dark when I picked it up and the dark blue is a fantastic color. Second, with everyone inside and excited to go for their first ride, I turned the key and... click... click... click...

...dead battery.

And so it begins!
