Default Should I or shouldn't I ? ? ?

Hello all,

I'm currently in the market for a 2nd vehicle, especificallyan SUV and have always been interested in Land Rovers. I've narrowed it down to an'02 or '03Freelander forlooks, fairly economical for an SUV, off road capabilities, and more importantly it's reputation.

However while doing my research and reading through 4 different L/R forums itseems to me that the Freelander is a LEMON. About 6 out of 10 owner's have complaints after complaints with this particular model. Ranging from blown engines (KV4), blown tranny, the ever constant coolant leaks, defective window motors, shall I go on.

I had my heart set on one but is it a crap shoot, I've also noticed that compared to other mini-SUV's the Freelander seems to be in the lower price range against the likes of Honda's, Jeep's, Ford's and other manufacturers. So I ask myself why?

My heart says YES but my mind says NO. I guess I'm throwing this out here to get some feedback from actual owner's and to somehow justify my decision.

Should I or shouldn't I.....

NO, they are junk unless you buy a new one.

Thanks for the feedback Disco Mike. Why would Land Rover put out such a disfuntional vehicle and tarnish their stellar reputation for building tanks on four wheels. I've always had the perception that Land Rovers were the measuring stick when it came to SUV's before the term SUV was even coined. When I watched Safari's on National Geographic back in the day you either saw Land Rovers or Toyota Land Cruisers, period.

With the ever soaring gas prices owning a Disco, which by the way was my first choice, is really not too economical.

I hear you, I have just seem a few too many disgruntled owners, primarily regarding engine issues.
I know the LR2 is a great replacement but may not be in your price range.

Yes an LR2 is somewhat out of my budget, heck if I had my choice I'd have an '08 Range Rover Sport in my driveway by the end of the week.

Out of curiosity how's the gas mileage of a Disco anyway? Is it really a gas guzzler?

On the Disco's mpg's are from 11 to 14 in town
mpgs hwy are 15 to 18.

Stock have better mpgs and will have been kept up with service
work to get the best mpgs.

I'm waiting for the Range Rover diesel V8 to get to the U.S.
But I may end up with the V10 diesel VW Tourage.
