Default Took the plunge

I just became the proud, but somewhat nervous, new owner of a 1998 Disco I.
Chose the Disco over a 1976 CJ7, both were priced about the same and both were in relatively the same original stock, in need of service, shape.
Have a wife and 3 kids, and that became the deciding factor.
If it was just me, my son and the dog that would be toolin' around, the CJ7 would have won out.
But couldn't bring myself to do that to the ladies.

Anyhow, besides the oil leaking all over the underside, the Disco has performed well the 1st 100 miles of ownership (day 1). Wife and kids got much more of a kick out of climbing some short steep hills than even I had hoped.
I am bringing it into the Rover dealership on Saturday to do a check and see what icebergs I have waiting just beyond detection.

I am no mechanic, but played one as a teenager - killed a lot of cars doing so I might add.

Anyways, I am really looking forward to my "new" Disco, and will be heavily relying on the resources of this site.

BTW - without knowing so, you all had a hand in my decision, as I spent countless hours reading some posts here to get comfortable with the idea of owning a vehicle known to require a good deal of TLC.

-Suspects

Welcome!

DI vs CJ7 = Apples vs Oranges! Although either one would have been a good choice, I'm sure your wife appreciated the more "refined" Disco.

Take a look at Disco Mike's 60K service and start working through that, read up and DO SEARCHES, there's a lot of good info already on this site and lots of the questions you might have will have already been asked and answered.

2 words of advice : PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Welcome to the party!!! As you are getting her 'ready to travel' just remember that she will be worth all the sweat and busted knuckles when you finish.
