camping trailer
Yes, it's very expensive. That's why I was suggesting building something like it. I could build an off-road camper trailer with a full-size mattress and storage for a lot less than $18,500. You have to admit it is a very cool adventure trailer.
offroad france, i am contimplaiting using a similar trailer as a base
dave, that teardrop is v ery cool and i would build somethng like that but i am doing for 2 adults and 1 child, for just me and the wife that would be great but so would say a motorcycle tow behind pop up, and for the amount of work building a sleep in from scratch be cheaper to just modify a enclosed utility trailer by adding windows and doing the inside up , not as cool but cheaper
i want to make this for now,

i have it sort of figured out except the main box, dont want to build that box but cant seem to find one premade
the boxes over the wheel wells are easy just buy truck side toolboxes and bolt em on

OK well we went trailer shopping today and I am really leaning toward just buying a enclosed 4x6 v nose, they are cheap new and will hold all our stuff no problem, i realy want to build what i want but just no time or room
thoughts?
thoughts?
The Mobi and the Adventure trailers are both the DB's, superb. The only cringe factor is the prices I guess but if they get used a lot for vacations and weekending I reckon they're maybe worthwhile.
Tom;
We do many off road trailers here in South Africa. One or two suggestions; buy a braked axle that has the same track width as your tow vehicle. Pay attention to clearance, there is little use trying to drag a trailer with itty bitty wheels behind your 4x4 with 16 inch or taller wheels and tires. Build it as light as you can, even from aluminum if possible on top of the frame. Check out the Metalian series of trailers on Google, but there must be thirty different types manufactured for off road use. Leaf springs may break, there are pros and cons to the Alko rubber axles, but I have a trailer that has them, does exactly what you want, and took it 150 KMs off road into Botswana, no problem and with more clearance than my D2. You want a weather resistant, dust resistant unit that has stowage to keep everything secure. Building your own would be a great project!! Keep it light or you will put your vacation budget in the fuel tank.
