Discovery II Brush and Bull Bars: what do you prefer?

So what the hell is the point of them then? Plastic bumpers will barely hold up to branches, they certainly won't hold up to a oncoming snowbank, person or approaching vehicle, and they dint look right on the disco. In fact plastic bars insult the Disco in my opinion!

I'll stick with what I've got.

I don't have anything on mine (yet.) But in defense of rubber or squeezable material, they absorb and deflect energy better than materials that don't give. I grew up in the headstone business, and for sandblasting lettering and designs into hard granite, we used rubber stencils. The high-pressure "sand" would cut into the granite, but - in contrast - bounce off the rubber.
So, from a physics standpoint, anything that hits the rubber (say things like gravel, brush, etc... within reason) will transfer energy to the rubber/nerf bar. In turn the rubber/nerf bar will return or deflect that energy. In effect, bouncing anything that hits it back away from your grill. Not such a bad thing.

all of them are for shopping cart protection and as a sacrificial barrier to the paint or headlights. if that's the layer of protection you need than great. headlights need to be protected too and you may need to do the rear as well. Ive heard these brush bars can be dangerous like the guys said and that things like deer present problems.
next level is real offroad and i guess that's the arbs, terrafirmas and others.
Once you crush the D2 plastic bumper you really have no choice but to replace it with steel bumper. it would be $ foolish to fix it and then put brush bars on it.
i like those cruiser bars. i remember them from Fast & Furious in Brasil. i thought about those too for the D1.
