I have only used these on diesels , only used flat ones , I did not know there were flat and contoured,

Is there a reason to buy the lap joint clamps IMO the flat ones conform over the lap joints

 

9 out 0f 10 times I use the flat/butt joint clamps too. The lap joint clamp is used when joining 2 pipes that are different ID/OD that slip over each other(like a pipe to muffler).

Best prices I've found are eBay. Something like $15 each shipped I think. They work just fine. I've got one of the 3" v-bands on my disco and it does perfectly.

 

Grabbed a few cheap lap joints on eBay 10$ each shipped?

 

Oh, lap joints. I automatically assumed you meant v-band clamps when you said band clamps. Ebay still seems like the best source I see.

 

I have found Mikalor exhaust clamps which are wider than the usual U clamps. Are they more effective and does the slot in the pipe have to be wider than the clamp. Any advice please?
