Default Hummer badass

Always liked the Military spec Hummer. Would be cool to own one, though I hate the H2 and H3 models completely. My favorite features on the hummer:

- fully sealed and waterproof drivetrain
- run flat system
- Central tire inflation system
- the braking system which supposedly has amazing stopping power
- the design which allows the Hummer to take on slopes and angles that would certainly send any other SUV rolling sideways
- The Brake Throttle Modulation system and the torque biasing differentials which uses the brakes to lock the differentials, rather than a shifter cable assembly

still in a everyday sense the Hummer is less practical than a Land Rover, in part because of its large size and horrible gas mileage. Not sure how reliable they are and I have no idea how cheap or expensive parts and labor is for these vehicles. In any case the above mentioned features would certainly be a welcome addition to a Land Rover. Especially the waterproof drivetrain. Ill keep dreaming.

For such a large vehicle, there isnt much space in the cabin.

The front seats are very squished...the transmission tunnel takes up all the room.

H4O - HUMMER 4x4 Off Road

there's plenty of information there

say hi to me there - in the H3 section

and just for the record, there's nothing about a Land Rover that is better than an H3 - I own both. Though it's kind of funny, when I went up to rescue the 3 Land Rovers that were stuck and broke - they didn't say a word about how much they hated H3s.... weird, no?

A couple funny things now that you mention it.

- Hummer is history, company went out of business
- H2 and H3 models sit on nothing more than a Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon chassis. The real Hummer sat on its own AM General galvanized super strong chassis
- The H3 is the smallest of all the Hummer models
- Lowest rating for rear crash protection
-H2 and H3 will rot because they do not have rust resistant aluminum bodies - the H1 does
- Decreased ground clearance compared to H1
- H2 and H3 cannot use the snorkel kit which was equppted on the H1 because the dash, fuses, alternator, power steering cap, transmission controller, radio, and engine controller are not waterproof
- Many argue that "Suburban or Colorado could be easily upgraded with the same parts as the H3 to make them equally capable, for far less money"
- Insurance will be higher for a Hummer than most other vehicles
- Supposedly maintenance costs are very high
- H2 and H3 do not have any of the following: independent suspension, tire deflation system, gear reduction hubs, inboard disk brakes and i dont believe the drivetrain is sealed/waterproof as it is on the H1.

In short the H2 and H3 models are junk. A little experiment General Motors did before things went south. Id take on a H2/H3 any day of the week in my Disco. But even I will gladly bow down before the real hummer - The H1. In my opinion the Military spec fully loaded Hummer H1 is the most capable SUV period. Everything after was just a joke so take care of your H3 will ya?!

I can not fit, comfortably. Jack in the box! And hated the on road handling
Never sit in h2 or 3, though.

I assume you guys are referring to the H2 and H3 when you mention not much room because the H1 is considerably larger and more spacious....

Never been in the 2 or 3. Had an h1 mil sell off.... No headroom, but you'd have no problem at all. I am a foot or more taller.

I actually forgot all about the headroom factor, guess we short people dont have to stress over hitting our head as much
But yeah your right cause none of them have much headroom which is very odd considering the H1 was military and many US soldiers MUST HAVE BEEN tall! What on earth were they thinking at AM General? lol

Yeah, I always assume that designers are little folk or going off of the 1950 standard male height average. Definitely a bonus to shorter stature is the unlimited auto fittings, not to mention, you can buy jeans at a real store and not online only

nor can you read - your opinion is bunk - I compared the H3 to the Land Rover; not the H1. But if you want to go there, at 10k lbs, H1s find the bottom quite quickly; the diesels are adequate at best (and this coming from someone who owns and drives a 6.2 diesel powered truck). H1s are great if you have the space to run them; but I've yet to run a trail where the H1 would even begin to fit.

They also have a transmission tunnel that takes up most of the truck - for passenger capacity, the H3 and the H2 carry more people than the H1, they also tow more.

Now, let's go to the Land Rover.
1) they have a motor designed in the 50s that, despite 40 years of trying, still leak, blow head gaskets, and are underpowered compared to anything else (even the 3.8 V6).
2) they use a suspension that was last updated on covered wagons - and does an awesome job of following every rut in the road
3) their interior fit and finish is terrible
4) they leak water through the sun roofs
5) three amigos
6) the electronics are designed by people who don't believe in electricity
7) last I heard, the LR and RR were simply a more luxurious Tata.

As for GM no longer building Hummers, you're right, but have you seen the new Colorado? as you point out, the suspension shares parts; but as you know nothing about Colorados or Hummers, perhaps you should do a bit of research before you open your trap? They don't share many parts - which is kind of annoying at finding parts (e.g. headers, cast iron front diffs, all of the front suspension, even the rear locker was barely put in the Colorado before they stopped)- fortunately, it's still a GM product and there are plenty of companies out there that make replacements or upgrades.

Now, let's look at the LR to an H3

the H3 has locking differentials (electronic) AND traction control the LR - not so much
it has 4:1 transfer case - LR still hasn't decided it is willing to let its drivers decide whether or not the transfer case should be locked
the H3 has more power
the H3 has bigger tires and IFS
the H3 weighs marginally more, but it also tows twice as much

and it doesn't have lucas electronics or bosch the later which redefine expensive spares.

I own both - you? You claim that maintenance is more expensive. Prove it or shut it.
