Hummer badass
I spent 18 months practically liveing in a hummve over seas. Mind you it was an up arrmored 1151a turttleback. For being only 5 10height, I can honestly say, room was an issue. But owning a disco2 I would, In a heart beat take a true H1 alpha any day. Roomie or not. They are very capable vehicles that were designed for a reason. Also would make parking at the costco that much easier.
Ok little bit of history; I am military retired (medical) and was one of our Battalion Master Drivers for Hummvees (licensed on every single variation except the TOW missile A/T version) and have also owed several Rovers over the past decade +.
H1 = ONE of the best 4x4 the planet has every seen (especially the milspec version that I got to thrash around in 'cuz when I broke it someone else both fixed it and it cost me exactly $0)
The milspec humvee's drive train was basically an AMC copy of the land rovers' AWD/4x4 system. The humvee is also one of the most uncomfortable vehicles ever invented (military survival while wearing body armor, helmets, and surrounded by radios and weapons are pretty much the exact opposite of what one would design for passenger comfort). Other than the stolen Rover AWD/4x4 system the single best part of the humvee/H1 is that huge torquey GMC diesel engine. Neither of which are available in the H2 (which is just a Tahoe chassis with different body panels and the EXACT SAME 4X4 SYSTEM) and the H3 (which is based on the trailblazer chassis with the EXACT SAME 4X4 SYSTEM! FYI the Trailblazer SUV was widely know as one of the worst 4x4 vehicles ever made in the US). The trailblazer = dog poop isnt just my opinion but one of the actual people who designed and manufactured the friggin thing (my father is a retired GM prototype tool and die guy who worked in the new vehicle engineering section so that is straight from the horse's mouth once removed).
So basically you would like us to believe that a twice removed (and twice watered-down) relative of a vehicle what was almost an exact mechanical copy of a rover, is considered an admitted failure and point of embarrassment for the people who ACTUALLY DESIGNED IT!, is somehow a better off road vehicle than the original that inspired it?
I am of course avoiding any comparison of diesel vs gas engine (mainly because i'd give your left nut to have the diesel engine in my D2) but it should give you some idea of drivetrain construction and capabilities when rover offers its trucks with diesels (everywhere the EPA doesnt exist anyway) and GM could never find a way to put one into an H2...)
I have "owned" them both (sadly the US Army wouldnt let me take mine home. sad bears), driven them both, broken them both, sunk-stuck-buried-recovered them both (actually 3 of 4 because my girlfriend had an H3 that she got stuck in the parking lot of a friggin paved ski resort parking lot) and your assessment of the both vehicles is pretty much just plain wrong - as is your Humvee/H1/H2/H3 history timeline...
