Default Looking for opinions

We have a 2000 DII 7 seater, 18 inch hurricanes. 115k miles and the beautiful rust bubbles starting to pop right above the windshield. We have yet to take it off road as it's my wifes daily driver. My dilemma is that I want one now to play with. Should I buy her a newer nicer one (she likes the 04) and turn the 2000 into a more capable play item or drop the same money on one already set up for trails? Any comments are welcome. Thanks and happy new year1

The 115K is near the time for lots of things, like oil pump, water pump, head gasket, beyond time for front prop shaft.... so to keep SWMBO moving smoothly, might be an idea. Either way, the existing one will start to need things. So if you buy an older one, you'll have two that need more work... either a demand on time or wallet or both.

the PO did the drive shafts. Head gaskets are being done at the shop as we speak. Since july it has had a wheel bearing, drag link, SAI work done, condenser fan replaced. I am hoping we are nearing a small break in the work. Even a slight pause would be ok. I love the discoII and don't mind the occasional aggravation it can cause.

Have a family of two Rovers in your driveway!

Since the 2000, hopefully, will have a pause in technical repairs, take this time to take it off road stock and determine what goodies it needs to please you. Hell, a two inch lift and tires may suit your offroad driving wants just fine.

But with purchasing another D2, more problems as Savannah says

Proposition; why don't you do some research on the Discovery 1's. Eventually, you will come upon one in great condition and a perfect candidate for converting to trail worthiness. Then, you can do the 03-04 headlight conversion to satisfy your wife's needs!

What trails do you have over there?
There is the offroad park near Flint but thats about it isint it?
There are plenty of DI's out there for cheap that you can buy for a weekend beater.
Take her's to the bodyshop and have the roof repaired.
