They are a niche truck, either like it or hate it. I think they are cool, maybe I can in the near future purchase one and I will wheel it! I keep looking for them on the trails, until then I can always dream.

Dreams are good!!! They keep us going despite all the BS in the world and our jobs. I dreamed for years of having a Disco until I finally got one 6 years ago. Hope your dream pans out and you find a most excellent G Wagon to cherish.

The G-wagon now is only gas V8 but the GL is gas V8 or diesel V6.
If you could find a old one that was diesel I would be willing to bet it was not in good shape.
A friend of mine looked for over a year and found only one that was in fair shape.
He did not buy it , he got a D-110 he told me it was easier to find Defender 110 than a older G-wagon, On the D-110 with 500 in the U.S. and 25 in Canada harder to find a G-wagon? "Dam''

Default G-Wagon

The Canadian Army uses them so they should be selling as surplus soon.

sorry to join this party so late but to the OP. Seeing a g-wagen on the street is rare. Seeing one offroad is even more rare as the individual who buys that truck almost never takes em offroad. But ownership is a whole different ballpark. Be prepared for very high repair bills (even worse than LR's) and even worse fuel economy. Also, be prepared to hear ever interior component squeak, rattle and groan.
