NEWb needs a touch of advice plz
I just bought a 1966 Land Rover Series IIa, 2.2cy; gas. I have just a couple of questions. I am an avid 4x4'r and rockcrawler from Colorado and have experience with International Scouts, Old Style Broncos, and many jeeps........... I would like to know since my Rover is stock, I would like a bit of lift but understand not much is possible due to the crossmember under the transfer case ........ should I just do a add-a-leaf, or add shackles or both and how high can I go without issue ??
Next question is I need some tires and dont know where in the heck to find something to fit the stock rims. My stock tires are 6.00x16" Is there a more conventional size that will fit on my rims, and if not what size rims would be good to get and what bolt pattern am I looking for.
I eventually am going to turn it into a diesel and put 4 coils underneath or do 1/4 elliptical springs designed by my buddies at Avalanche Engineering.
Also curious if anyone has heard of complete mod where I can put narrowed Dana 60's with lockers and new 4cyl diesel engine inside.
Like I said, I am a newbie to Rovers but I got lucky and got me a sweet unit with no frame rot and near mint interior and exterior. It's almost to nice to modify, but an inch or two of lift and some durable tires would help get me through some rivers and some mud. The only thing missing on my Rover is a rear ladder, and I would also like a cheap snorkel for the intake. ( do I need to dump the oil bath system ? )
Thank you Folks,
Fly

Try 7.5 x 16's for the tyres, they'll fit and might even give you the extra height you're looking for. Failing that 205/80/16's will also fit, not sure about the sidewall height on those though.
