Good. For the record, I've never even suggested before that a member leave or shown the door. On any forum. But such behavior by a moderator was way over the top.
I'm just sorry his propshaft thread got deleted. In any case, I'll stick around and see how it goes.
I can be a curmudgeon and an ***, but I try very hard to not get in to personal insults. I even try to acknowledge when I'm shown I'm factually wrong.

Now while everyone is thinking about it, I'll throw out a couple of questions.... and let the chips fall where they may.

1. Moderators are invited now to participate. Do you think that there should be term limits for their service, or that we should rotate every "X" time period?
As long as they are doing a good job I see no reason for that.
I'm even opposed to term limits in politics.

2. Should moderators read every post, and jump in and filter things? There are not enough of us for that.
No, that's silly. If they see something they should deal with it, but posts don't need "approval". Of course they should respond if a complaint is made.

3. How should moderators handle "**** posts" ( I delete it as one member raised the the issue of violations of work place computer practices)?
That's a difficult one. I understand the at work concern, but on the other hand if your workplace has such rules, they probably also have rules about visiting forums from work. Maybe one section that is somewhat anything goes, but labeled "Warning, may contain adult content." Anywhere else it's deleted.
I know quite a few women who like ****, so you can't just assume all women will be offended. And some men will be offended.

4. How should moderators handle posts that would be a sexual harrassment issue at the office? For me, I guess I'll have to retire Defender gal in the mud pix. Certainly this is a male dominated site, but many of us have ladies in our life, and even children. I'd like to see more gals on the site, and they should be welcomed, not forced to "strut through a construction site."
See number two.
On the other hand, some things are plain offensive, even to me. I think deleting the post and a PM'd warning to the poster referencing the terms of service should suffice.
I'll own my post, which I've deleted, in the Christmas present tool thread. As a double entendre with a photo of my new torque wrench it would have been ok, IMO, but I did it poorly

5. As a moderator my most common duty is scanning for multiple posts by the same unrecognized new name, and finding links to some off the wall service like Paris call girls, DVDs of TV shows and ****, or stuff that has nothing to do with us, like knocked down discount decorator furniture. Those get purged to keep your visits to the site entertaining and productive.
Sounds right

I'm not here for a popularity contest. I like Land Rovers. I like to help where I can. None of us knows it all. And no one knows more than all of us together.
Exactly.
Don't ask me why I've liked them for so long though. LOL

I would but Justin didn't give us the password to approve folks. You'll have to wait for him to get out of bed. Unless Spike has it?

Who is the official site owner anyway?

Just curious.
