Default What Coolers are you running?

So I have two coolers a Coleman steel belted old school style and a Magellan roto-molded cooler off brand yeti style from Academy Sports.

On our short vacation to Orlando I had both in the excursion both were filled at the same time same ice, and all items added were refrigerated before putting them in. The Coleman was opened more often. So the ice lasted 2 days in the old school Coleman and I was surprised that the Magellan also only made it two days.

In all the "testing" I see on YouTube it seems like real world use is not tested.

I am looking for a better option but don't want to go fridge.

Rtic, Yeti, Pelican what are you guys using and what results are you seeing real worl

Curious as well although I am leaning towards going the fridge route. By the time I buy a decent sized Yeti we are getting close to fridge territory (some makes/models at least) and the idea of not having ice or being able to bring frozen items is a nice thought. Even if I don't camp as much as I'd like to just having cold drinks ready to go when off-roading and not worry about ice or my cooler leaking lol is tempting enough.

I have considered that but I get paranoid about killing the battery overnight and the good fridges are running a grand it seems.

If the ice keeping ability is equal I prefer the latch system of the pelican over the rubber used on the others

I'm already in the process of running a dual battery setup so that's not super high on my list of concerns. I can't remember the brand but it's one that has been around forever and 500-800 will get you a good sized fridge and I have friends that run them for years now with no issues.

I'm not a fan of the rubber latches either.

I’d be interested to know what brand. ARB, Dometic and SnowMaster all seem to start around $900 and escalate quickly. I see a bunch of off brand ones for $500 range but I am skeptical on the quality.

The rubber latches are hateful lol

A good sized pelican is running $375ish about the same for the others.

Since buying my 50ltr waeco i havent used a cooler/esky for years, a proper compressor fridge makes for a much more pleasurable experience being able to crack a beer or eat ice cream in 40C temps.
Dual battery system was one of my top priorities when upgrading from the D1 to a D3, i bought 125W solar blanket that i use to top up the batteries in staying put without driving to top them up.
My mate a 95ltr dual fridge/freezer, coffee machine and 12V oven setup in the back of his D5.nice to have hot apple pies with ice cream in the bush during summer
Without an aux battery you can adjust the low voltage cutout on the fridge and turn it off over night to conserve battery power.

Doesn’t turning it off overnight kind of defeat the purpose though lol.

When camping at a fixed site tend to leave the cooler at camp so I would need another plan for powering it then.

Been doing more and more reading just wish there was more real world use reports
