What are you guys listening to today?
Some excellent music. Although I'm a modern jazz 'die hard' I appreciate many types and themes, apart from a couple - punk rock being one. It's a great shame true instrumental backing has all but disappeared in recent years, why I don't know, maybe it's easier to create electronically and less errors but it destroys any flair in music. There also seems to be a proliferation of 'screeching' vocalists as well, I blame Britney Spears for that as it all seemed to stem from her onwards.

Speaking of music diversity, I know you'll think I'm crazy.........but............ Edward Elgar and Nimrod is one of my favourite pieces. It speaks to me of England and home, I just love it. It really speaks volumes in my head.
Elgar was from Malvern, the heart of England, and if your ever this side of the pond it's defo worth a visit, lovely classic town, also very close to the barracks of the SAS for the military guys amongst you, I trained in unarmed combat with them before my middle east FWEL assignment many, many years ago, brutal SOB's I still bear the scars.
Worcester is also close by and the Morgan cars factory................now I've got your attention ............ eh.

I've worked with SAS. Good guys. Excellent beards.
Anyways, I've been digging this band from Sweden and I saw their EP on the shelf the other day and had to pick it up. They are dark and heavy, but their melodic sensibilities give them a pseudo-pop vibe.

...all very lovely but I wish that we could repeat last night's combination of music. I have seriously never slept so well in all of my life...I don't think I moved from when my head hit the pillow. Apparently 'dancing in the moonlight' and 'I'll be your lover too' is complete zen for me
I'll listen to 'the march goes on' and the 'darkside' tomorrow when I'm fully rested

Do I take that as a NO you don't like Elgar

..............that's a bit of an Enigma.

Sounds good as music should be, far better than a lot of the cr*p churned out these days. I'd certainly listen to it as it's melodic, not sure I'd go out and buy it though, different people with different tastes.
Anyways, here is a band that I saw twice, once in 2008 and again in 2009... unfortunately their singer passed away in 2010.
Don't get me wrong France, I have nothing against Elgar - we listen to a LOT of British themed music in our house..Sunday morning podcasts of church music, marches, the Queen speaking on occasion (no not me
) I think my husband is home-sick - he needs a trip back to his homeland before we both go crazy... lol. I hate to say this but I've always had somewhat of a 'dislike' for marches. Probably because I grew up as a classical violinist and the 'band geeks' always thought they were better than the 'orchestra nerds' and I was their leader...
I really should start to play again - I miss it...
Here's one you may enjoy.. I'll leave you tonight with visions of a midsummer night's dream. Well close... fairies dancing on rooftops, swaying violinists (that was me in the 80's on the very same stage), and nervish whirling dervishes
Sweet dreams!

Sweet dreams!
The problem with many bands now is that they have little grasp on the melody part of the equation.
