They are allegedly discontinuing the Defender in favour of the new 'mickey mouse' concept. How true the rumour is one can only guess until it happens. They will loose an awfully large market share from farmers to Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi etc. I believe LR are more interested in the up market sales of RR, RRS and D4 for Chelsea tractors rather than the grass roots market of farmers and working people who probably repair their own trucks and keep them far too long for the LR group to make money. As soon as LR withdraw the proper vehicles in favour of these new toys I'm afraid it will be time to visit the Asian showrooms for 4x4 vehicles which are now becoming very robust and reliable.

Gerry McGovern, the guy in charge of the project, likes to relax by walking around Bond St to see what places the wealthy visit, shops they go to, restaurants they eat in, wine they drink.
That should tell us all we need to know about the likelihood of a decent Defender replacement.

to bad someone else could not take over the rights to the original land rover idea.... as well as the rights to the Defender. Impossible I bet but wishful thinking for the working class who prefer the utilitarian English work horse over anything else. Sigh

I think you are right TRIARII, the dilution of the marque by it leaving the UK ownership and possibly production as well will inevitably spell the death knell of the LR as we know it. It is now a 'money' product for the rich and famous as opposed to the old work horse of decades. Everything inevitably moves on in this world but not always for the better and the minions with raw interest and enthusiasm are left and forgotten in the wake. The humble Caterham 7 is a case in point where money has enveloped the common man's sporting car much for the worse. Such is life.

The future concepts of the DC100 and sports version........... https://www.google.fr/search?q=landr...w=1164&bih=645................. in the UK these will be a no, no apart from the use by posers and hairdressers.

The DC100 looks familiarly like the Skoda Yeti.............. Résultats Google Recherche d'images correspondant à http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/Skoda-Yeti-exterior-front.jpg ................ so not exactly original but my choice would be the Yeti with a 2.0 litre 140 bhp diesel engine.............and autobox.....of course.
