Default Red Warning Light

I am new to the forum and seeking a little help. I am helping a friend with his 1962 Rover. The red warning light on the dash fired up a year or so ago and it was our understanding this indicated charging problem. We had the generator tested and replaced it with a new unit. The warning light still glows brightly. Can someone give me a procedure to track down the problem? Much appreciated.
Regards

First, have him do the walking, there is nothing more frustrating then doing something like this on such an old vehicle, and why has he waited a year to have you post a question?

I guess you have to understand MJD. The Rover was originally his grand-dads. We use it about 150 miles a year at Deer Kamp. MJD has nil mechanical skill and I am self taught by working on my Lotus Seven, so he relies on me,,,,,,, as the local expert????. As problems arise, they get put on hold until the next hunting season. This year was the Water Pump and this generator. Water Pump and cooling system is back to spec..... and now he has a new generator. The red light bothers him more than I, and I don;t see a battery drain so as far as I am concerned we are good to go.....
