Default Series 2A enigine in a series 3

Hi guys. New to the forum. Recently got a series 3 with a Series 2A engine in it, they never got the clutch to work properly and it wont engage/disengage. I'm thinking its because maybe the s2A engine isn't a good fit. Any thoughts, am I barking up the wrong tree, or can one put a series 2 engine in a S3.

Not sure, but it may be a compatibility issue with the pressure plate and clutch. Did they mate the 2A engine with the original transmission in the 3? It looks like the clutch and pressure plates are different between these two vehicles, as is the entire clutch release mechanism. Has the slave cylinder been properly bled? It is external so you can see it move regardless. If you don't have any info, you can check the Rover's North website. They have full diagrams of all of the pieces.
