Default alternative search for engine parts

Don't know if anyone else does this but there is another search option for engine parts for our engines up to 2004MY. Remember what our engines really are which is a 1963 Buick motor. When LR came out with the 4.0 and 4.6 blocks they didn't improve anything per se, they went back to the original Buick design with the cross bolting and additional webbing and larger crank journals. Simple proof is the fact that a Buick 300 V8 crankshaft has the same journal size and will drop right in. The crank end at the flywheel is different but adapters can be made/bought. The aluminum heads from a 1964 Buick 300 V8 (the only year for aluminum heads) will bolt right on and actually flow better. One stroker recipe to take a 4.0 to 4.8 uses the 300 crank with Rover 4.6 connecting rods and Ford V6 pistons with 64 Buick heads.

Instead of paying $180 for a timing gear and chain set, you can get a set from NAPA for $25 by ordering a set for a 1965 Buick Skylark with the 300 V8. The front timing cover gasket can be ordered for a Buick V6 of the same year and in fact the timing cover itself can be used on a Rover engine. Main bearings are the same as the Buick 300 V8 and can be ordered in sizes unavailable for a land Rover engine should your crankshaft need to be ground for a rebuild. Our cams able to drive a distributor are called "longnose" cams but the more common name is "Buick" cam.

If you are ordering ARP head studs. Don't order them for the Rover V8 for $230 Save yourself about $100 and order them for the Buick 215. You'll get the same thing for a lower price and have an extra 4 studs with washers and nuts as spares or to use elsewhere. The Rover V8 set comes with 5 long and 5 short. The Buick set has 5 long and 9 short. You get more for about 1/2 the price.

The internals, lifters, bearings, etc, are the same. So if you're having trouble finding something for your engine, have your parts store search for the part using a 1965 Buick Skylark with a 300 V8 as the vehicle. You'll be surprised at how many times a special order part for your Rover is in stock for the Buick at a much lower price.

Don't get frustrated trying to find something, remember what our engines are so you can get your part and save yourself some cash.

BTW, the Buick 300 V8 (5.0L) engine block is the same block as the 4.0/4.6 Rover block but cast iron instead of aluminum.
