I can buy this vehicle ('06 HSE) at a great price from a local Pawn Shop. They say it was driven in and now can't find/don't have key(s).
This vehicle has 75K and is otherwise very clean, and a clean title. Is It worth the effort?
We have no Rover Dealer for a couple hundred miles so hauling it to a dealer makes little sense.

2006 is still the BMW system right? Can't you get the keys cut with the VIN, and sync them to the vehicle with the button/tumbler trick?

 

So I searched for "Button Tumbler Trick" and really didn't understand. I am not familiar with Rover mechanics or electronics at all.
Could you please elaborate?

 

2006 is the Jaguar version. Not sure if you can self program the keys. Dealership might just be your only option.

 

Gap tool can do it but only if you have a key that is currently programmed
