Default BMW vs Jag

So, I'm having some trouble finding a decent '06-09 model near me, for a reasonable price. Tons of '05s tough around though. Are the BMW motors really that much more of a roll of the dice? I had an '08 335 with the N54 motor, that was amazing... but not without it's quirks.

M62 V8 is nothing like the N54 I-6. Apples to Oranges.

We continually see '03-'05 Rovers w/ timing chain issues. Almost totals the car to fix it properly, but it isn't my call on what the customer wants to do with their money.
Those years also have issues with Steering Columns. Given that, I'm very partial to '07-'09 models. The Jag motor was the best thing about those vehicles and in 2010, they threw it all away and went back to Timing Chain and Coolant Leak hell.

I'm not saying don't buy what you are looking for, but I think the extra money spend up front for a newer model, will save you money in the long run. Unless you can find one that has had all the work done already and is DOCUMENTED. Don't take somebody's word for it.

Jag 4.4/4.2 are the best motor Rover has ever used in my opinion. I have and would continue to pass on the BMW 4.4

Thanks guys. Holding out for an 07-09 is what my gut tells me to do. I think I just needed to hear it from someone else too. Did the 07-09 models have any non-motor related issues to look out for?

Front Air Struts, possibly a compressor, Control Arm Bushings, occasional water pump, etc... Typical Rover stuff, just not as many problems regarding the motor.
