Range Rover L322 Key Programming - 2007, 2008, 2009
YES, this can be done with the GAP IID Tool. I just completed the process on my 2009 Range Rover with the switch blade style key.
The manual isn't very clear as of this writing, so I had some issues getting it to work properly at first.
Some notes that will help the next person looking for help:
1. It needs to be a key from the dealer. Bummer, yes, but just the way it is. Upside, at least in my case, I was able to save $300 by not needing the service department to code it, which was a service separate of getting the key itself. The key, sourced from the parts dept at the dealer, was $417, and coding, would have been an additional $300. Gap tool just about paid for itself in this one transaction.
2. When you start the programming process, a prompt will appear that'll freak you out, which is...
At first I was like... no, I don't want to reprogram the only key that works at the moment, I want to only reprogram the new key. Well, unknown to me, this is just the way the process works, but follow along and all will be fine.
3. You start the process with the OG, working key, not the new uncoded key. This might sound like common sense to some, but it wasn't to me.
Quick summary of the process...
1. Plug in the Gap tool into the OBD reader. No key in the ignition right now. Go to the key programming module and get that going.
2. Once prompted, you'll put the ORIGINAL key into the ignition, follow the prompts (key to position 2, start engine, etc)
3. Again, follow the prompts, remove the OG key, insert the uncoded one, follow prompts, it'll code that one, and then you're done.
It's very simple once you understand that it all begins with the OG key first.
I have programmed the knock off keys before wonder if you just got a bad one
Possibly! Either way, not upset about it, still cheaper than even one month’s car payment if the alternative is owning a newer car haha. Maybe if I add a beater key I’ll try another china one.
I keep meaning to try and program them with the launch tool it says it can but I don’t want to ruin the good thing I have going with the L322 that thing has been really reliable
