What engine??
Hi all, long story short, what am I looking for if I need a new engine? I'm getting really confused trying to shop. It's a 2012 LR Range Rover N/A, the VIN goes SALMF1D...
Long story long... I'm really stuck with my moms RR and with trying to finish up school, I just haven't had the time needed to lurk enough. It had a nasty coolant leak, she kept driving, overheated, blown head gasket, etc. I was trying to play around with and fix the engine internals but the deeper and deeper I get the more I realize without a proper shop and uhh training, I don't want to mess with those timing chains and all the tight tolerances of the other innards.
Because of this, we're thinking about the easier route and just swapping in a new engine (I do have a lift, etc) but as I'm shopping I'm running into issues where the Sport engines pop up with the "7th VIN digit D" on them, but when I come across the "normal" Range Rover engines they seem to say "7th VIN digit E" which some of the descriptions say as the supercharged version?
So I guess what I'm ultimately curious about is would 1. the RR Sport engine work? and 2. if the engine ends up having the supercharger, (would love to surprise her with that lol) would that be a plug and play thing or would it need new ECU, cooling bits, etc.? or otherwise 3. What should I be looking for specifically to just replace it?
Thank you!!
