2016 Vogue 3.0 SDV6 Vogue 4dr Auto oil dilution
Hi Everyone, okay so I'm new to the forum and I guess this subject has been cover many time. Oil changed at 62,129 miles two months later @ 63,330 miles (so that's just 1,200 miles) service due at '0' miles..Garage assures correct oil and filter being used which I trust is correct ~ telling me 'I need to drive it like its stolen' in other words driving too slow on consistent short journeys.. I'd have thought I could get at least 5k mile between oil changes; could there be another reason otherwise oil changes are costing more than diesel? Any comment will be appreciated
It is not clear to me from your post whether your issue is simply the service indication light coming on 1,200 miles following and oil change, or if your oil has become diluted. If it is the former, I would follow the dealer’s suggestion. Find a highway and drive for a couple of hours at high(er) speed. It will give the DPF (diesel particulate filter) system the time to cycle through a regen.
However, if your oil has actually become diluted, as a starting point I’d suggest testing the oil with someone like Blackstone to determine the source of dilution.

Hi There,
Really thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.. this is the first time I've used a forum and its great that someone responds. My concern is the frequency that I have notification of the oil service. I assume its because of oil dilution but to travel only 1,150 miles since the last oil and filter service is disconcerting to say the least. I've had the car since 2018 and have followed all the service intervals even replacing the timing belt on schedule @ 7yrs old but less than 65,000 miles..The maximum miles I've achieved between oil services is less than 5k miles and even that's optimistic usually 2,500 miles at best, I've been keeping an eye on the soot levels in the DPF as I've had one forced generation in the last 6 months but suspect another soon.. I appreciate your comment and will try, as advised the motorway runs to to alleviate the issue. I simply wondered whether could be an oversensitive sensor aggravating the situation, I also get the dreaded intermittent turbo over-boost code P0234-77 so looks like more trouble ahead love the car but its a real pain adn proving to be expensive. Cheers anyway.

I am a bit confused, are you stating that the service message appeared 1200 miles after you performed the change? Every time an oil service is performed, the computer needs to be reset. If the garage that did the oil change did not reset the oil service indicator, take it back and have them do it. I assume you checked your oil levels and made sure there are no oil leaks. The oil service message is designed to appear after a certain time and mileage has elapsed. This is explained in your owner's manual.
It may be worth doing some research on the underlying causes that will prompt the “Service Needed” indicator.
I do my own oil changes every 10,000 miles and reset the service indicator. I also do an oil analysis to track oil condition and any abnormal signs of wear. My td6 is a 2017 and has about 45K miles on it. The analyses have not shown any cause for concern.
I mention this because my service indicator always appears well before the expected 10K interval, although I can’t tell you how long after an oil change / reset. My sense is it is around 2,500 miles. I just ignore it, but admit that may be imprudent.
