After ownership of L322, D3, D2, Freelander 2, I now own a L405 4.4 2014 with 73K on the clock. Had the car for 3 months now.
Been getting to know the car, doing little bits here and there and am currently replacing the Rear pads and calipers (EPB fault). Just been having a little look over the car underside whilst car is jacked.
I've been cleaning up the odd bit of rust, spraying a bit of grease and whilst doing so noticed a plug disconnected from the rear of the gearbox, where the rear drive shaft is connected (see photo) - right on the top of the box (you can see the driveshaft flange (lithium grease on it). Now the car works perfectly - no warning lights, gear changes all smooth and as it should be. I'm always of the mindset "if it aint broke...", so am reaching out to as, what is that connection for, should I reconnect (I think it should be connected) or just leave it as it is? Either is has been purposely disconnected/or someone forgot to plug it back in.
Any advice would be useful. Thank you. Adam. Plug disconnected on top of rear of gearbox - L405
I would check with a competent tech before you plug it in to figure out what it is for and why it is unplugged. Perhaps you can ask the previous owner why it is unplugged. It may be so on purpose since you say everything is working fine on the car with no warning messages. Let us know what you find out. You can also check for communication faults with the TCM (Transmission Control Module) with a GAP tool.
