I have owned a Disco before so I am somewhat familiar with LR ownership and the required maintenance. I looked at a 2001 p38 today that is in immaculate shape. The frame has no rust. I’m in New England. I was stunned.

couple of questions:
It has the hvac book lit up and I couldn’t get heat or ac to work on either side. Is this generally the large repair which requires dash removal? Or are there smaller things I could check first? I believe, based on some searching, that the easier fixes generally have one side which still works? I am handy and do a lot of work, but taking apart a 20 year old rover dash isn’t for me.

Power steering: I can’t remember what driving my Disco felt like, I have been driving a Lexus Gx470 for years and it’s a fantastic driver. This rover was, in comparison, really slow to get moving and it felt a bit like driving an older farm truck! I don’t actually have an issue with this, it’ll be a weekend vehicle for fun, but I’d honestly be a little surprised it it didn’t drive a little smoother.

Has a thick book of maintenance records, heads were done and air suspension works correctly and has receipts for work done including sun roof - no leaks


. I did notice a little oil around valve cover gaskets(I assume that’s what they’re called, even on a British ride). Also I took a picture of the underside where I noticed some oil, etc. Apologies for quality of photo. Anyone notice anything bad please holler.

again, the frame is so clean I am still in disbelief. The entire undercarriage is A+. Price is $8500/obo. 120k miles. Interior is mint aside from driver seat. Any thoughts on price, issues, things I should have checked appreciated.

 

It sounds like a great vehicle in general. I would say that P38’s don’t rust unless they’ve driven on salt water beaches. The fact that it’s still on air suspension is a good sign. The oil leaks don’t look worrisome to me. As for the HVAC book symbol, it might take some work to figure out. I doubt that it will be expensive, but it could be a little time consuming. The dash assembly isn’t really that difficult to remove and reinstall if it comes down to that. I’m not up on current prices, but it sounds like a fairly well maintained vehicle with fairly low mileage.
