Advice needed! Looking to buy
Hello everyone! I’m looking to buy a Range Rover Sport (somewhere around a 2010-ish model) and was hoping for advice on specific model years with a good reputation. We already own a 2001 Discovery II and love it but we know they have a lot of common small issues. Any advice on a good Range Rover would be appreciated!
Timing chains the cooling system issues are the two biggest we run across on 2010+ rovers, both the 3.0 V6 and the 5.0 V8.
We have yet to see chain issues on 2015 and later, but cooling system issues plague all years. Several of the pipes and lines are plastic and do not age well.
Find a trained Land Rover tech/shop and have a Pre-Purchase Inspection done, even if it means taking it to a dealer.

Realistically, the timing guides go many many more miles even with it sounding bad and a lot of slop in the chain. Not saying it is a good thing but prior to purchase, turn the engine on and you can hear the chain rattle. It may break or make the deal. Work it into the purchase price if need be. I also would like to add to the issue list: the supercharger itself (on supercharged models) does knock after many miles. The insulator on the “nose” of the supercharger knocks and prolonged denial of repair doesn’t get any better and will damage the blades of the supercharger. There are TSBs and revisions on all the above stated.
True your absolutely right but i was talking about that 4.6-liter, direct-injected, twin-turbo,V-8-engine Mercedes has. That thing is super reliable and with the right mods that thing is a monster also Benz updated the balance shafts in 09 on the m273s, I was just saying that out of there germans it seem that benz have them beat on just there regular V8s but to me the Range Rover sport is still a beast of a motor the only thing is you have to get the timming guidelers fixed after writing this I think I still may purchase one..lol
True but out of the 3 Germans benz addresed and fixed that and allowed there customers to get it done under warranty unlike BMW with the n63 then they updated it with the n63tu which still is trash look all I'm saying your right about that fact that every company cut corners but for me I'm not no where near rich and we should be able to get 200k miles with today's motors and technology as long as we do our routine maintenance but benz will always be the best or nothing with m273s they took care of ther wrongs when other companies were playing dum like they weren't aware and left people stuck with repair Bill's
