Battery Charger Killed Electrical
Hi all. It looks as though I may have killed my 2008 RR Sport. My battery was flat after sitting a couple of months. Jumped the battery, drove to the house to put it on charge. All normal. Put it on auto charge over-night. In the morning the battery was cooking (auto charge failed on charger and must have stayed at its pre-programmed 15 amps? Replaced battery and now it may or may not crank, the key may or may not come out of the ignition, the hazard flashers are on all the time with key cycled to on (anti-theft mode?), all warnings are illuminated in cluster when engine does crank, starts, system in limp-home. With scanner: no communication to brakes/chassis/transmission/ecm, other vitals -Fuses appear ok. Is there a gateway circuit or failsafe circuit in system that is fusable? It is as if the ignition module (does it have on?) is not sending info to the required modules. At times after cycling the key back and forth, the engine starts, will go into gear (limp-home) -does not register gear selection-, after cycling key a few times, you can remove key from ignition lock -does or does not recognize park position? Any suggestions are valued -thanks! mpmorris.
Partial update: I discharged the capacitors via grounding the positive terminal. This seemed to straighten out the communication issues between modules. I was left with a check engine light and the suspension warning illuminated stating the chassis was not level. After sitting another 24 hours or so, these two fault indicators went away at start-up. All is well -vehicle is back to normal -all systems respond --except I still do not have communication with the main modules with scanner. Next, I will pull the front fuse box/power distribution controller and start disconnecting modules individually to see which is pulling down the can system -will keep the group informed of my travels. mpm
