Default Lef the key in the ignition - in the off position - that killed the battery

Came in from work on Friday.
Left the key in the ignition in the garage but, turned off the Rover.
Key was in OFF position - but left in the ignition.

Noticed on Sunday there was power to the cigarette lighter as the iPhone charger was lit up.

The anti theft light was on.

Tried to crank the engine - dead.

So, never leave you key in the ignition!!!!
Charging on 6 amps now all night..

Guess I should have realized it would do that.

I hope your hood swith is down or unplugged....

The key in igntion would activate a circuit on the BCU..

Savannah,
ouch.
Hood is up as I was charging it.
Switch is activated.

Guess I will be no start?

Did not remember to take the switch down.
I have not tried to start it yet - but will with in the hour.

6 amps all night - probably got a hot battery.

Maybe not, if key was in ignition. But depress anyway. IMHO the hood alarm system is so much trouble with the Discos that I'll let the insurance take care of it. Mine is unplugged. Of course, I don't live in one of the metro areas full of expert mechanics, who take their engine block inside each night.

Hi Savannah,
I got lucky I guess.
I must have pulled the key of of the ignition on Sunday.
Then put the charger on.

Then we took the other car on a trip to OC.

Came back Sunday night - I had the battery on a 2 amp charge. Moved it to 6amps.

This morning - Battery looked to be charged at 4amps draw.
Did not feel hot. So, good.

Charger off and disconnected.

I put down the hood.

Key in.
Turned it on.
All normal looking..

IT Started!
and I am thankfully at work with no issues.

Thanks for your support!

Interesting about the key for sure. The BCU probably was awakened by the key in lock, so it had more power drain. One LR4 member posted about leaving the smarty key on a hook near the car, and the remote access sensors kept talking to it, would not go to sleep, and ran down the battery. Like kids under the covers with a flashlight... update to today - an Ipad.

Congrats on the Ipad!

You'll love it.

Be a bit wary before upgrading those as some of the newer IOS editions
have all these social media enhancements that eat the ipad battery for lunch.

Savannah,
Haha,
OK get this.

Steve Jobs hated Flash.
Flash is what ALL the Ads are in on this forum..

And by Virtue of your iPad, you are missing all the spam ads.

Good good.

I noticed they even added the flash over a picture on this BB.
The owners and developers are efficient..
