Dealer recommendation a head scratcher....HELP
I had the dealer replace my right rear wheel bearings on my '07 Range Rover Sport Supercharged and since the replacement I am now hearing an intermittent rubbing noise from the same wheel. Prior to the replacement I had no noise at all. On return to the dealer (same day) foreman advised after further inspection and cleaning, the replacement of the pads/rotor would resolve the issue. I explained pads/rotors for all four wheels were done only 10k miles ago. He explained there was unusual scoring on the back side of the rotor telling me one of the parts back there may have become rusted while it sat on their lot for a week, so the best bet is to do the brake job. As I had a rubbing issue in the spring of this year resulting from a failed caliper on the front passenger side wheel, I suggested it may make more sense to replace the caliper rather than the relatively new pads/rotors which don't have any moving parts. He respectfully disagreed and said the pistons in the caliper were working fine but couldn't tell me what part of the brake system may have suddenly rusted and now causing the rubbing.
As I know the pads and rotors are in great shape (he agreed) I find it difficult to believe replacing them rather than the caliper will solve the problem. Please let me know your thoughts guys....
