Misfuelling issue and where from here
I own a rangerover sport 2010 TDV8 which I unfortunately filled with 2.1 litres of unleaded petrol, the tank was a quarter full. Stupid me.
With no help in sight in a remote location over 100kms from any civilisation in country Australia, I was advised to top the car up with diesel and that this should get me to the nearest city.
I have managed to drive it a bit over 100km.
The car drove fine and the engine sounds as healthy as a horse.
The dilemma:
- Given that the contamination ratio is 2.5%. (2.1 litres of unleaded petrol added onto 84 litres of diesel) is it safe to assume that the fuel pump, fuel filter and engine will be okay if I maintain the fuel above the half-tank mark for several week/ months?
- Diesel has a higher density compared to unleaded petrol. Unleaded petrol will float at the top of the tank. Assuming the drainpipe is at the bottom of the fuel tank, it might be safe to assume that the petrol wont flow into the engine as long as the fuel tank is filled to capacity all the time?
Keen to know what i should do.
Thanks
