BAK-PAK-RAK and RTT EXPO Racks
I know you told the better half, no real modding of the D2, but are you interested in testing some of my D2 sliders for me?

Mounts the same as on a D1 length of the D2 is different and accommodated for. There is only about 2" of actual step on these.
Problem with all sill mount sliders is that while strong (much stronger than the sill itself) the age and condition of the sills give way to stresses applied to the slider. When you add tree/rub rails or extend the step further out the sill becomes even more vulnerable to damage (crumpling and breaking into itself) Then the doors come into play because the slider is now attached to metal that has buckled and the doors won't open. The slider itself has not deformed in any fashion.
Plain and simple. If you are going to play hard in the rocks and on wooded trail etc... My recommendation is NOT to extend the sliders, buy and install as seen in pics.
If you use your rig as a camping/expo rig and use on light/med trails etc.. I wouldn't hesitate using an extended version.
PM me if you want to discuss a custom set.

Thanks for the fast follow-up. My rig is definitely not crawling over any rocks. Camping and forest service roads. I was considering getting getting running boards, frame sliders just look way tougher
How do the extended ones mount...same way? Or do they bold underneath somewhere?

Here are my new standard Land Cruiser treads. This is what I would recommend for extending them outward.
