1998 LR ignition (key) cylinder needed!
Need what the locksmith called a key cylinder but seems to be called an ignition cylinder. It's the part you stick the key into in the steering column. My key won't turn the tumbler any more. Local dealership told me they discontinued the part. No local big chain stores have the part. I just bought this vehicle and am getting worried that I am stuck with something I cannot repair. I am a single mother of three with no clue about vehicle repair, so any advice would be appreciated.
Mine had the opposite problem of the key turning freely but not engaging the start switch. You can replace the assembly from New Old Stock but it's expensive.
This is the part you need:

Here is an article that explains how to work on it and possibly fix it yourself:

If you can't fix it by the listed procedure, you can leave the lock off and just use a screwdriver. What I did was replace the switch with a toggle on the dash and a push-button for the starter. I just use the keys for the door locks.

Do read thru the tech article https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ock-fix-35422/ and share with your locksmith, it has lots of pictures. You are basically removing some of the tumblers so that ones that don't work are out of the way. Locksmith may be able to help you for less than price of a new one. Locksmiths are used to working on this sort of thing, they are not very good on head gaskets.
