Anybody looking to get rid of a known good alternator? I believe my bearings are starting to squeal so it's probably a good time to look for a replacement.

Update: Bought a used 150amp Bosch unit with a year warranty from Will Tillery(willtillery@roverguy.com). Installed it last night and it works great.

 

If none available, indy starter/alternator shops can handle that for you. One near me gets less than $100 for that. And there's salvage yards and the parts guys that dismantle Discos. You can put your ear to a long screw driver and touch the alternator with it, to listen, just in case it is something else nearby.

 

I checked with a shop nearby. Quoted $89-$149 for replacing the bearings. That sound reasonable?

Problem is, it's my daily driver and it will take at least a day for them to do it. So I figured swapping in a spare, then getting the old one fixed and swapping that back in could still be cheaper than buying a new one. Then I have a spare to boot.

 

Well my first choice is always OEM that has been removed by my fingers from a dead one, as far as price and availability. But you might not have many Rovers in nearby salvage yards. $89 seems in the range.

You can find quality replacement alternator parts cheaply from sahibs auto electrics online auto parts shop. I tried and satisfied with the quality service which they provide to me.
