Unless the trailer is wired with the lights like the disco, separate brake, turn and tail lights, you need a converter.
Most US trailers have shared brake and turn.

Please clarify, this converter is spliced in where? Do I bypass my 7 pin connector or does this go in between the 7 pin and the 4 pin.

I was looking at it again, maybe the adapter you got has the converter built it. I'd call and ask.
I've never used one, I just cut off the OE plugs and spliced in the US wiring.
