Miles, ownership, and wallet thickness are not membership criteria. Just an interest in these vehicles. How often do you change oil?

I try to change it every 3-5k, but i've gone as far as 7k before - a few times. I have always had to add a 1/4 quart of oil every 2 weeks or so, so the oil never really gets too terribly filthy. It's leaked slightly since the day I purchased it with 75,000 miles on it. I just never fixed it. I just keep a close eye on my fluids and refill when needed.

I don't have a thick wallet, so i'm not the person that will replace leaking gaskets.

Almost nothing, his check engine light has been on for 2 years, he goes to the quick lube for oil changes and has the same attitude as me, if it ain't broke dont fix it.
These trucks do not require the preventative maintenance that some people want you to believe.
Do whats needed and dont worry about it, its just a truck, its never going to last forever as there will become a point where it costs more to fix it then it is worth.

Save money on maintenance so you can spend it on living life.

Dont take that to mean go cheap on everything, take that to mean dont go overboard.
Dont spend $15 on a oil filter, dont spend $10 on a quart of oil, dont add snake oil to the power steering/transmission/diffs/t-case/gas...

The only major repairs have been head gaskets (once at 125K and again at 235K). I'm the original owner, always used Moble 1 with K&N filter every 5K. Has no oil leaks, no ck engine lights on. All accessories are still working. I run Royal Purple in the diffs and t-case. Trans fluid changed every 35 - 40K. But I increased the frequency to every 15K when she hit 200K.

Update on 12-15-14 - now has over 281,000 and still running strong.

Default my black p38 going on 213000m

bought my 2000 p38 with about 100000 miles on it 5 and a half years ago. she's about to roll over 212500. still runs great! been through lots of work, but i love my truck and enjoy maintaining such a cool machine. did the transfer case chain at about 185000 and it was like night and day on the low end torque and drivetrain responsiveness.
