An Overdue Thank You
Turns out I got fleeced on my Discovery 2. The "friends" i purchased it from decided to NOT tell me they dumped a bathtubs worth of stop leak into the cooling system to quickly get rid of the car. After G Reeves installed the thermostat the car started overheating BAD. We woke up whatever overheating beast was lingering the vehicle. Weve pretty much pin pointed it to the radiator so the new one is in transit as we speak. Im not a 'one hit wonder'. I love my Discovery and am going to get it fixed and back to being awesome.
Point of this thread is to say thanks once again to G Reeves. He is a total professional and a very nice guy. I consider him a good friend. I know he's also been in communicaton with other members of this forum for additional input. One of those members he's been talking to is Disco Mike. Mike, I sincerely appreciate your help as well. I've only been here a short while but I notice it is a great community with lots of great people. I hope to continue learning and maybe contribute something to this forum. Thanks to anyone else who has helped us with opinions and ideas.
Sincerely,
Dr Jones

were 99% sure its the radiator. we have all the appropriate signs and drips. the new OEM one has arrived from ebay along with my obnoxious air horn (g reeves told me to). just waiting for mr reeves to come over and install. hes a machine. nothing stops the guy!
spoke with seller, he said he feels terrible and such. the car has a new water pump and he said he didnt know about overheating issues with it. said it was fine to drive at 225 degrees and whatever problem it has now is our fault. as far as the stop leak, he said that the owner took the car to a citgo station for oil changes, and thinks it came from there as he said he doesnt use it.
as soon as it hit 225 i shut it down and limped it the 2 miles home from the gym. he said it never went above 206 but if it did, and went to 225 id be 'fine'. ill stick with the people who SPECIALIZE in land rovers like you guys. ive learned alot so far, and im willing to listen to the tips from your guys!
Just keep a couple of things in mind.
The boiling point of water is 212 degrees F, and you exceed that.
The engine is aluminum and does not tolerate heat very well.
Yes G Reeves is an excellent fellow to have helping you. He hyas a weath of experience that few have due to his extensive background with these in his homeland.
I hope you learn from him as that is a great opportunity.
Too bad, your "friends" did you like that. They hid the full truth from you and it sounds like they are still not being totally honest with you.
I look forward to you not being a one hit wonder.
Now about the claim to be "Indiana Jones"....

Well, after a few long irritating days, we pinpointed it to the dreaded head gaskets. Seems its an older problem. They dumped in the stop leak, and called it a day. Radiator was definitely bad though. I'll post pics when I get on the computer tomorrow. G Reeves has been tearing things apart and finding interesting little tidbits that shoot holes in the "story" I was sold with the car. Fear not, ordering all the parts to fix the rover up. I love it, i can't give up now. I've owned it just over a month, and it's been sitting more than half the time. But in those 2 weeks of driving I grew to really enjoy the car. As far as technical questions G Reeves will hopefully chime in as he's the expert and I'm the pupil. Again, thanks to both Graeme and Disco Mike for their relentless dedication to help a fellow enthusiast. Graeme is a fantastic guy and I consider him a friend.
When mine sits for a week or two while I am working on something or waiting for parts, and then sometimes waiting for the right part after that, I just figure I am saving lots of gas driving the other vehicles in the driveway.
