Default Sent to Ford

I just sent this to them
I'm writing you as a former logger and as someone who as been off-roading and doing recovery for nearly 40 years. In addition to Land Rovers, I also drive a 4WD F-250HD.

Ford is using an extremely irresponsible advertisement, showing vehicle recovery using a chain.
How do you tow a semi-truck out of a ditch? Here's how it's done. [Video]
While I know lots of people do it, it's not safe.
Placing the ad on a 4WD forum where a lot of people are inexperienced in recovery is extremely irresponsible.
Open hooks should never be used for recovery and neither should chain if there's any chance of it becoming a dynamic recovery situation, which the one in the video could easily become. Neither should the gear be looped behind a trailer ball.

I certainly hope Ford will do the right thing and remove the ad before an inexperienced person uses it as an example of vehicle recovery and severely injures or kills themselves or someone else.
Ford is always staging situations for advertisements, it would be simple to use the correct recovery gear (a strap with closed loops and shackles), even if the loggers actually used chain.

Good work. Let us know if they reply.

In your previous job, did you sing this song?

Tom, in the interim you can report the YouTube video for the aforementioned reasons. YT might pull it as a result.

Glad you sent that to Ford. As a person who has worked on many commercials that was probably some idiot exec producer/director/client rep (ford) that thought it would make it look cool. I have worked on car product commercials and seen it go both ways...idiots doing anything to get the director or client what they want and others who REFUSE to do something that wouldn't work. Which gets everyone pissy after the months planning and money spent!

Please let us know what Ford comes back with.

Also, at some point can we discuss just how aggravated that semi-truck driver was that he was pulled out by that Ford truck when he's giving his talk back to the camera! LOL

I did get a reply, all in html code which I couldn't be bothered to cipher through. When I replied asking them to send the email in plain text rather than html they sent the same message again.
I did see in it where they were apologizing if they upset me. LOL

Not me, but one day I was sitting on a tree sharpening my chain and the local forester came walking up singing it.

So it's even worse than I thought. I was thinking maybe it was just an ad for forums.

You should see the pictures from the Dodge Ram 2500 shoot. They went to the beach in California at low tide and got stuck. Then the tide came in before they could get out. Even a surfer is seen on top of the truck.
