Default Need help identifying this Series Rover

Okay so I bought this yesterday! Pulled it home over 3 hours with my 06’ LR3. The title says it is a 1962 but I don’t think that is correct. Can anyone please help me identify what it is? The VIN is 24104239 and it shows a prefix of 1 but not sure if that is part of the VIN. It looks like someone put a frame into the front to make the grill flat with a longer hood maybe.

Looks like a defender front on a Series IIa

I agree with the grill being Defender. It could be a 2A, but the instrument panel is not, maybe S3? Is it coil or leaf sprung? Maybe it’s a D90 that someone needed a VIN for and was able to register it as a1962?

it does have leaf springs and they are in really rough shape.

Before you get to deep check the rear cross member the frame and the body outriggers condition.

My gut tells me someone updated the dash to series 3 and the fenders. Seats are from god knows what. Your vin is correct for a 2a however

Yes I have been checking those areas. The frame is in rough shape in some areas. Is this repairable or is the only option to buy a whole new galvanized frame?

So it all depends on how soft the metal is it’s hard to tell from pics if that is just surface rust or more on the frame. I can see it’s previously been patched in a few areas.

It’s time consuming to repair the frame, I have done a fair amount of that on my 110 project but as long as you are willing to do the prep make the patches and weld it in, the cost is very minimal

You appear to have 2 very different things, both of which could get you in serious legal jeopardy in certain jurisdictions. That is-- a title (or bill of sale), and a vehicle that is unlikely to have anything to do with that title. There is nothing "1962" about that body. Front end is Land Rover 90 (pre-Defender), doors are same or early Defender. Frame has leafs, so NOT Defender. Dash looks like very very late Series 3 (sometimes referred to as "Series 4", and typically used to refer to late Santana-- around 1983 or so-- where the company parted ways with Solihul LR.

As others have pointed out, this thing is a mess. Not everything is worth restoring. I'm pretty sure you could order up a truckload of parts and build a truck from scratch with less work and $$ than trying to reclaim this one. If you do decide to spend money on this truck, I strongly urge you to completely sort out all title questions before spending a penny on actual work. You can spend a zillion dollars making it pretty as a peach, but without a proper title, you will have nothing if the powers that be mpound the vehicle for title irregularities.

Best of luck.

/2 cents

While I agree it’s a definitely a conglomeration of parts which means it may never be worth a lot of money, if your goal is to have a nice classic LR to drive (and keep for yourself) it might still be worth the effort.
