Default Series IIa- Perfect Power Transmission to front axle, no power transmission to rear..

Series IIa here, Land Rover North America sold. Used by State of Fl and State of Georgia in the Okeefenokee Swamp(not joking).

I purchased it from an elderly man who was about to have it hauled for scrap. I have it running semi-reliably and the transmission works great, I think I know what I am doing with high range and low range. However, no matter how I try to operate the vehicle- there is no power transmission to the rear wheels.

I have the green bibles on the way, but I was wondering where I should begin looking first. Thanks all very much !

If you’re sure you’re in gear, suspect a broken axle. It’s very common. They’re cheap. If it broke at the wheel end replacement is very easy. If it broke in the diff 3rd member, still easy enough but you’ll need to remove the 3rd member to remove the broken stub.

I have had it up in the air on a rack this AM. I am getting no power transmission to the rear- the driveshaft isn't even spinning. I just was able to get it up. Just not getting output to the driveshaft to the rear.

If you’re getting power to the front drive shaft but not the rear, I am thinking an issue in the transfer case.

Yeah, having had it up on a rack, it is very bothersome to have seen that I am not getting any output from the t-case to the pumpkin.

I am pretty sick I purchased it and I am pretty sick that I did not think to check it.

I have one of the two green bibles, I cannot find #2 and I believe it has the information I need.

The irony is that before I got neck deep in this mess, I had purchased a DGVE conversion kit(manifold and then authentic weber 38, not chi-com 38). I feel like a fool.

It has been a bad week in the world of Land Rovers. My 1995 RRC began overheating and it looks like I will need to do thermostat, headgaskets(complete gasket replacement for top end), the water pumps, and the radiator. I checked the radiator and it is toast- whoever last rodded it really did a terrible job and it looks like it could spring a leak any moment. *vintagecarownership* sigh

At least they’re easy to work on. I hope you have an alternate set of wheels to drive while you sort out your RR’s. I doubt that the issue on your Series is too serious (pun not really intended).

Were you ever able to figure this out and fix it? I have the same issue on my Series III lightweight.

I lubed everything, I worked on the linkages.

I had put on a Weber DGEV conversion and intake, really happy with it.

When I was in the truck revving the engine, I noticed the clutch was stuck(rusted up the flywheel). I put the truck into 4wd, 4sp and I pulled it off with my 4x4 50hp Landrac

Well that broke loose the clutch. It was working great.

I was taking it up to the barn to work on the 4wd, and the strangest dadblame thing happened- it went into four wheel drive.

It is now an intermittant isssue. My biggest problem is my truck has a PTO and also a lift system. It is meant to be used with a Bushhog, and I do use it for Bushhogging some spots.

I haven't had time to examine the green bible and figure out what is failing. I am so sorry I cannot be of more help.

Good luck with that. I am waiting on the book as well.
