I have a few questions about mounting some brackets and the use for some brackets which are on my Series 3.
My wife and I sometimes do work at a local land trust and I would like to mount a shovel and ax inside my Landy using the same bracket below. The issue is that, as is shown in the second picture below, there is already a bracket there. Does anyone know what that bracket is used for? I was thinking about cutting and grinding it off.
I'm curious what the bracket below is used for?
It is hard to tell because of the grime, but there are three brackets in this picture. What is their purpose? To hold the jack handle? On that note, I bought a period correct jack with a long handle and was wondering where it gets stowed?
The first bracket that you are asking about is actually a spare tire bracket. You are missing a bolt and another bracket that would allow you to carry an extra spare in the back of your landy. The second bracket is actually the retainer for when you have a soft top and tailgate attached. There should be one on each side of the door frame. They are to keep your tailgate shut. The last brackets are indeed for the jack handle. The clips closest to the front of the car are for the jack handle. The clips farther towards the back of the car are for your crank start handle. That is also why there is that clip higher up; it is to hold the top of the crank start handle. It is kind of hard to explain, and if I get a chance later, I will attach some picture of how the jack handle and crank handle clip in, as well as what the spare tire mount pieces look like.

Hope this helps
Many thanks for your answer!
I was confident in the inside bracket being for a spare tire. Since I have one on the hood, and one on my rear door, I feel OK grinding off the one inside.
I had no idea of the brackets on either side of my rear door so thank you for clearing that up. As much as I would love to take the top off I realize, as one person, I am just never going to go that route!
