Having trouble getting fan off a 2003 discovery 2. Have the 36mm wrench and wedging along screwdriver in to hold the pulley. Will not budge. Hit it with a Mallot. Used liquid wrench. Just ordered the 60$ fan clutch tool. Hope this works. Any ideas , tricks????

Make sure the belt still on. Then hit hard to the left with mallet.

I like this fan clutch tool ... works like a champ!
It's a Schley 61600 > https://www.jbtoolsales.com/schley-p...SABEgLUM_D_BwE

I hope this is a Captain Obvious statement, but you are turning the wrench in the correct direction... to the Passenger Side/LEFT (NAS LR)?

Ha, yes. Ordered that tool today. Hitting to the left , did not budge. I have seen videos where guys just hit it with the mallet. No luck for mine. Thanks guys, can't do my real work till I get this off

If you need to get things done before the Schley tool comes in you could rent a similar fan clutch tool from AutoZone or Advance.

But if you wait for the Schley you will not be disappointed, that thing works every time.

I dont think there is a special trick with the removal. I just thought at the moment if you could loosen the pulley tensioner and wedge about a half inch to an inch wood in one of the pulleys then release the tensioner. You might be able to get the belt more tight. Then hit the tool really hard towards your left no holding back. Good luck

I’ve used a vice grip on the lip and butt it up against something and hit the wrench with a mallet

The trick isn't hitting it to the left *(it will just try to spin the pulley more vs loosen the fan clutch), but actually downward. Place the adjustable/36MM Fan Clutch tool at 12oclock, then using a sledge or a dead blow hammer hit it with a downward hit at a very slight angle to the left. Normally 2-3 good taps like that and it will bust free.

I just used A long air chisel on my air hammer and it came off in 3 seconds...but if you have no air tools, you probably need a spanner wrench...
