Default RIP BLACK PHILIP - the BEST truck I ever owned

Got broadsided this evening by a red light runner. Took quite a shot. Pics don’t nearly relay the impact. Hit by a 2014 Lexus which blew into pieces quite spectacularly.
Ive never been hit this hard. I’d imagine she was going about 40, 45.
Theres significant damage to the steering and front axle but as screwed up as it was I was able to STILL drive home about 5 miles.

This was always my fear. Soooo much time and money making this truck what I wanted and now, blah....

You walked away unscathed, count your blessings friend. Now, the airbags deployed on a side impact? Both sides? How was that experience? I’ve always wanted to know if they still work after 20 years.

Edit: Are you going to part any items out?

Yeah I’m happy to be alive. No doubt.
The experience was like nothing I’ve ever been through. I’ve got some burns on my forearms and other assorted injuries including what looks like serious road rash on my back shoulder from something? Seatbelt I’m guessing.
I was shocked the airbags functioned. It was quick too. I had about 1 second to realize the hit was coming and focused on steering to avoid hitting the three concrete light poles at the road corner. The airbags went off immediately impact. Like bang then pop. And yes they both deployed. They have a smell unlike anything I’ve ever smelled. The dust they give off is rough. Choked me quite a bit and kept me from breathing for a few minutes. The passenger side smoked for like ten minutes.

I was dazed for a good few minutes too before I got my wits back and made my way out the drivers door. The hit was so hard it knocked my raybans off my face, out the open window, and across two lanes. A lady nearby actually fetched them for me. A real sweetheart.

Not sure on parting out. So much to figure out. Really want another Disco I. ESPECIALLY after this. As far as I’m concerned it protected me exactly as it was designed to.

So glad you made it out okay. I was always curious how the D1 would fair in a side impact. You can always get another. There is one near me for $600 right now. Hope the insurance treats you fairly.

Sorry to hear about the accident.
Wonderful your still alive and upright.

Cars and stuff can be replaced. Your due for a massage to erase the imprint of that crash upon your body.

Glad to hear you are OK. Sorry about your truck.

Not sure where you are located but with some patience and all the expertise you have accumulated you will find another.
