preload on front swivels or steering box ??
There has to be many LR Disco out there with 130+ miles that have a front end shake or shimmy that you feel in the steering wheel when you hit a bump or pot hole. When i bought my used Disco it didnt do this till I appoached 70 mph. When i hit a bump it scared the crap out of me cause the front end started shaking bad ,till Ibraked hard togain control. I then posted a few questionson this forum and what fewresponces i got led me to believe it was the shims, preload on the front end swivel joints, I researched thisremovedsome shims and tighten the preload. i also put on new steering stabilizer, replaced the bushing in the panyard bar. I also moved front wheels and tires to back to eliminate the question of tires and balance. All of this improved the shimmy shake when i hit a bump, but not completly, so Ive removed what few shims i had left on the front swivels, along with tightning the steering box a 1/2 turn to see if maybe it was a little loose.
Today i drive the vehichle with no out of control problems , but tend to still feel through the steering wheel a small wobble if i hit a bumb. Its driving me nuts, i want to eliminate this problem all together ANY idea's ???
I challenge a few folks out there that have this problem orknow how or what to fix it.Im not a master mech. butfeel with your all's help i can fix this issue.
Question what happens when youve removed all the shims, IS it now time to replace preload bearings and the pins above the shims, TO me I would think they wear out, I hope the swivels dont have to be replaced cause that looks like a big job. Ive purchased CD on Ebay that claim to be service repair information, only to be disipointed once i review it. I would purchace a LR disco service book if thought it would list what to do. Come on folks help give me some help. I welcome any phone call 812-430-5744, Scott thx

Ive had this issue with a 94 cheeroke I once owned. And like you the first time it happened I was doing about 70 and it scared the wits outta me. Slowly it started doing it at lower speeds until it would do itsometimes on its own as low as 30 mph. What I ended up doing was replacing the springs and shocks, the steering damper and all the bushings as well as the tie rods and ball joints. Problem was fixed after that, but I dont know about this setup as its a bit different then the jeeps
