Default Discovery 2 lifter preload Question

Hi All-
I'm working on a 2003 disco 2 w/117k miles. After rebuilding this engine (head gasket problems, ticking in valvetrain, ect) I only have one problem left to solve- Lifter preload. Since the heads were milled and the specs on preload would be out of spec, I purchased the pedestal shim kit and was able to set preload on Bank 1 correctly(varying from .040 to .060) on bank 2, however, setting all preloads except #6 was acceptable (.040/.060) #6 was about .010.....the only way to get it in spec was to remove the pedestal shims (on Bank 2 only) and set 2,4,8 @.080/.090 to get #6 to .020/.030. The valves are level with each other, swapping lifters and pushrods didn't change it(swapped them back). It's a factory cam and lifters with the ERR # cast in it- could it be the cam lobe is off center? Can I get by with that much preload? After finding this out I realized that the valve train tick I heard previously WAS from #6 area! Anyone dealt with this before?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Throw all the shims away and put the motor together.

Well, Thanks for the assurance. I've assembled the rest of it and will be putting it back in this weekend. You'll have to excuse my concern, I haven't done a lot with American engines since I was a teenager and the lifters on small block Chevys were adjusted by ear. I'm a BMW master tech by trade, so this is a bit different than what I'm used to.
Thanks again

Yes. Filled them with oil to purge/lubricate, rotated the cam to release the oil and took the measurements after the oil was purged from the lifters. Note also the cam and lifters had about 5K on them and the lobes and lifter faces looked perfect.
