Default Engine getting hot

I was driving to charleston and noticed that the temperature gauge was higher than it normally would be at. It was still in between the two lines of operation, but on the higher side, so i cut on the heat, and it went back down to normal within a couple of minutes. I checked, and i'm fine on coolant and my fan is running, I don't know if the fan should be really tight, mine isn't, it looks a little loose. If necessary, how would i tighten the fan? What else should I check? I don't know if this would have caused it, but 3 days prior, i had added some Lucas oil additive to help with a leakage issue i was having. Thanks for any help.

Could be a foreshadowing of t-stat or water pump problems, or just a bubble in the cooling system - might want to check for any seepage around the pump. If you haven't replaced your t-stat and water pump it would probably be a good idea to do so just as PM. I'm from Charleston and replace both at 60K intervals. With our summer heat, I don't want to be stranded in the middle of BFE with cooling issues. As you know, there isn't a damn thing between Charleston and Columbia except trailers and trees.

Oh, and it;s normal to be able to spin the fan around.

With your mileage, you should replace the fan clutch, check and make sure you electric fan is work, consider changing the t/stat and bleed the air out of the coolant system.

If what you mean by the fan being loose is easy to spin, that is how it is supposed to be.
You may need a new thermostat.
The oil additive should not have made a difference. As a general rule dont use oil additives, if you need additives then you need a better oil.
Rovers leak, end of story.
Have you switched to full synthetic yet? When I switched I went through 5 quarts my first 5k, then it went to 4 in 5k, then 3, then none.
It took 3 oil changes and 15k but now my trk doesnt use any oil between oil changes. OK, I dont need to add between oil changes. Never more than a half quart low.

I did switch to full synthetic 10w30 and will probably go up to 10w40 next change. i added the oil additive because i was having oil leak on my exhaust and it would smoke a lot.

Did it help the leak?
You need new valve cover gaskets. That is the only surefire way to stop the leak.
You can try tighting them, that might buy you some time.
