I have a '99 disco that I would like to upgrade springs and shocks. A couple of questions though...

If I put heavy duty springs and shocks on it will that actually raise the car an inch? I have heard this.

If true, that inch shouldn't throw off the drive shaft angles or mess anything up will it?

Is it true that only certain shocks will work with my ACE.

I found an AT tire that is my stock 255/55-18 size..I am hoping to not have to do any body work..

if you put hd springs on, yes it will lift the truck

if you lift it that small amount, the driveshafts will be ok

no its not true

thats the same tire size as stock so there wont be any issues

The only reason for the ACE question was I did see shocks that in thedescription it said "will not work with ACE"

Is there a preferred brand by disco II owners? I see a lot of discussion about OME stuff...

 

I have seen that statement on Bilstein shocks and don't understand why it should be an issue. I have a 2.5" lift and run OME H.D. shocks with my ACE and SLS with no problems.
Yes, you will get a 2" lift when going to new springs, but the end result will be less the 2"s after you consider how much your old factory springs have settled over the years.

So in summary, getting just new heavy duty springs and shocks will raise the vehicle, but less than 2", and that will not mess up anything with my drive shaft agles or brake cable lengths etc.....?

I think that extra inch or so will make it possible for me to put on some 255/60-18...I think those are about aninch taller than my stock 18's....I know 16s are the way to go if I get serious about where I go off road....but for now I think the 18's will have to do...but the 255/60-18 give me little taller side wall.....

 

You will be just fine going up to 2"s and have no problems with the drive lines or your ACE.
I have a 99 D2 with ACE and SLS running a 3" lift with no problems.

so a disco1 can run a 2" with out having to get extendedbrake lines

 

I am currently running a 3 inch lift with no drive line changes, only brake lines and Old Man Emu coils and shocks. There are different coils to pick from, so check with me and I'll be glad to help you with that.
Have you already replace the 2 u-joints on your front drive shaft, if not, that will need to be done, with or with out the lift.
