I have the General Grabber AT2 as well and could not be happier. However, the set in my size (245/70/16 on disco I, no mods) was not rated M+S. Right price, great performance so far, and as quiet as the next AT tire. It's got the tread pattern you want and will handle your moderate off-road. But again, the ones I've looked at are not rated specifically for snow.

 

Right now best ATs on the market are Duratracs--hands down. On my second set.

Off road when aired down they run as well as my KM2s. That said I have not tried the new Nokian AT, I'm a big Nokian fan. http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11952

 

Mike, as has been stated 19" is a tougher find. I am pretty sure that neither duratrac or MTR are in 19 in. I will double check that. As far as A/T the MTR has change over the last couple of years, not for the better. Great off road capabilities but doesn't last when put on pavement for long distance. I have a 2" lift on my LR3 and run 275 65 18 in the duratrac.

 

Are you using the rods only, or with the combination of the lift module?

Do you know if the 275/65/18's will rub on stock?

 

I have rods. The tires i have rub just on full lock and mostly I notice in reverse. Would say 275 65 18 would rub hard with stock height.

 

I'm like Mark who started the thread and need proper tires for my 08 LR3 with 18".
There is a decided lack of mud terrain tires small enough for this allowing stock height.
What I have found in the 265/60-18 and 265/65-18 are as such and rather disappointing

I have a LR3 HSE with 19" with Perrelli zeros. I live in Michigan and took them to a gravel pit called Bundy Hill. Went through rivers, rocks, hill climbs etc. Two people got stuck and they both had 18" tires. Go figure I don't come close to getting stuck with 19" less aggressive tires.

Took them through 20" of heavy snow, again easy no issues.

I am sure there are better tires in 18" and more options but spending 2k on new rims then 1k on tires just to get a little better grip seems excessive if you are not doing 50 percent offroading.

19" will be better on the highway, and in cornering etc.

I would just buy the most aggressive 19" you can find. If you get stuck too much then go to 18". I took mine into some very big hills and really had no issues. If you need more then buy a used 3k dunebuggy that will climb anything.

 

If you go taller it will throw off the speedometer readings. Wider better in sand, thinner better in snow.

Its a heavy truck compared to explorers. So it already has more pressure per square inch on the tires vs similar sized suvs to begin with.
