If I recall correctly, the advertised benefits were increased fuel economy and better power for towing. I was hoping to follow up to see if these were legitimate gains, or if it was a bunch of hype...
I know that, often times, ECU's are programmed in such a way to meet emissions requirements all along the RPM range and that stock tuning sometimes results in an area where the resulting engine performance is less than optimal in terms of power and torque.
If I remember correctly, the company I am referring to had a variety of different programs that were based on the octane rating of the fuel the owner committed to using.
I use my Disco II to pull an enclosed 7-1/2' x 18' Aluminum trailer with a couple of motorcycles in it back and forth to race tracks across the Midwest and Southeast on occasion. I don't tow regularly and the weight of trailer and contents is under 5000 lbs.
The Disco does a great job for the most part, but the fuel economy is terrible and it can also be a bit squirrelly at highway speeds due to the short wheelbase. The trailer is a dual axle and as long as it is loaded correctly, it's really not a big deal. The short wheelbase is a huge benefit when maneuvering the trailer in the paddock area, especially when backing.
A little more power and a little better fuel economy would make things that much better, so if their claims are true, it might be worth the investment.
Here you go. ECU re-do will work, it makes engine behave by new plans, not try to fight and fool them like the basic resistor change. Also not under $100.`
If your trailer is unstable at highway speeds you are either driving to fast or have it loaded wrong.
The weight needs to be 60/40, 60% in front of the axles and 40% behind them.
To much tongue weight and the truck will be unstable, no enough and the trailer will be unstable.
