Default New 03' DII owner in NC

I picked up a 2003 LR DiscoII very cheap 3 weeks ago and have been lurching the forums ever since. I swapped out the 22" rims that came on it for some stock 18"s. I tow with it and mostly drive it on the road, but like to get off the beaten path every now and then.

I have the 3 amigos so I need to find a way to read and clear the codes.

I have a intermittent clattering motor, but at 136k miles, I'm not to worried.

I am fairly mechanically inclined, many years of VW/AUDI work....LR can't be too different. I'm hoping to learn a lot and contribute where I can.

1. Oil change to 15W40 diesel rated oil, like Shell Rotella. May want to make oil pump pressure test, the warning light comes on at 7 PSI, lets you drive around on 9 PSI. Have been a number of oil pump failures, where pump gear is broken in multiple pieces, runs, but inadequate PSI.

2. Front propshaft and rear shaft must be greased every oil change. If front shaft has no zerks, rebuild it. Will make a chirping noise just befoe it breaks apart and spears the transmission, knocks hole in case. Write up on propshaft rebuild in tech section of the D1 area, covers D1 and D2.

3. Tech area also has what to do for high miles new2u rovers.

4. You'll appreciate the full set of factory shop manuals, called the RAVE, below. Includes owners, electrical, shop, wiring, and more. Free download.

5. Amigo codes need dedicated reader, not generic reader. About $120. If you ost where you are, some forum members rent their unit out.

1. I plan on doing a pressure test and oil change this weekend. Lots of good info on here why 15w40 is the way to go.

2. Looks like the front shaft has gone once before on this truck. I see some dents and scratches in the front tunnel. there is no play in the shaft and looks newer, but no zerks!

3. CHECK!

4. DOUBLE CHECK!

5. I'm in Fayetteville, NC. anyone willing to rent an amigo?

Thanks again!
