On self programming with the GAP IID, according to their info, they say it can program in keys, but I do not have one so I am not really sure. The Activity Key is simply another key. I have heard two differing versions of programming anything in to the car's KVM module, one that you have to program each one, if you have two keys and an AK, you need to program in all three again. I have also heard that you can simply add one. Never actually done it myself.

The previous Activity Key had a separate module installed in the rear of the car. You apparently had to go near the rear area and it would unlock the vehicle it did nothing else. It has caused all the misunderstanding about the new Activity Key in general, which acts essentially like a regular key fob, with a watch.

Thanks DogPilot.

I’ll see if the boffins at GAP can edumacate me on the process. Having one at the right price might be handy.

Can confirm: the new style activity key with the light up screen behaves as a fob and can be programmed (added as a third key) via GIID. Make sure to put vehicle in service mode first!

Don't let the battery run down or it won't be able to open the door. Use the rear door trick to disable fobs left in the car (not that you'd need an extra fob since the activity key allows you to start and drive)

Be vigilant to get the correct frequency key if buying 3rd party (LR164064 for NA market)

Could you share the process with Gap IID tool for the key activation?

On the Gap Tool: Root Menu -> Service/Test -> RFA... -> Add Key

If it fails it is most likely that 'service mode' via the Land Rover remote app did not initiate (sometimes it takes a few minutes)

The strap they give you with the activity key is awful, but plenty of silicone bands in 22mm are available via Amazon/Alibaba

Also recommend a second charging cable to leave in the vehicle in case it gets low on charge

And there was great rejoicing.

Much appreciated.

I have an 2020 Defender (North America). After much misinformation from other sources and the Dealer itself, I successfully had an Activity Key programmed to my 2020 Defender. Here is a quick summary: My Dealer’s Parts counter told me the Activity Key was not supported for the MY2020 Defender and they could not order it. I called a different dealer and basically told me the same, but said they would call LR corporate to get some more info. I don’t remember the exact answer, but she said that the Activity Key is just a “key”, like the other key fobs, and should be able to be programmed. So I decided to just order one online (315Mhz for North America) and take my chances. Anyway, I got the key, my dealer programmed it ($250) and it works great.
Here are the details:

Ordered online from www.LandRoverPartsCounter.com

Part #: LR164064
Name: Activity Key Wristband, 315Mhz
Price: $381.32

Note: The website will ask for a VIN to verify compatibility. It told me that the Activity Key wasn’t compatible or available (or something) for my VIN. I ignored it (based on intel from this forum). I placed the order. The next day I got an email directly from LandRoverPartsCounter.com asking me for a VIN so they could verify compatibility (and thus honor their return policy). I stated that I understand that my VIN says it isn’t compatible and that I also understand I would not be able to return the product if it didn’t work. Anyway, I received it in less than a week and had it successfully installed as I said.

Btw: when you go to have Activity Key programmed at Dealer make sure to take all your existing keys with you. They will need those to complete the programming (security measure).

I am not sure why the 2020 Defender VIN comes up as Not Compatible/Not available. It works fine and they had no trouble programming it.

Hope this helps so folks

Curious to add the activity key. I see the two US part numbers floating around - LR147248 and LR164064. What's the difference, and which would work on a 2024MY?
